HELPING THE POOR
How to help the poor, and how much to help, has caused division. The Bible is clear: those who are able should work to earn a living. And God’s people are required to help the poor.
The Bible says:
- Deuteronomy 15:4: There should be no poor among you, for the LORD your God will greatly bless you in the land he is giving you as a special possession.
- Proverbs 19:17: Whoever is kind to the poor lends to the LORD, and he will reward them for what they have done.
- Ezekiel 16:49: this was the sin of your sister Sodom: She and her daughters were arrogant, overfed and unconcerned; they did not help the poor and needy.
- 2 Thessalonians 3:10: We gave you this rule: “The one who is unwilling to work shall not eat.”
